Privacy Policy

Last updated 17 September 2026. Applies to the Peeled app for iPhone and Android, and to this website.

The short version

Peeled collects nothing about you. There is no account, no sign-in, no analytics, no advertising, and no crash reporting. The app does not send your data anywhere, because it does not send anything anywhere. Everything the game remembers is stored on your own device and is deleted when you delete the app.

What we collect

Nothing. We do not collect, receive, store, sell or share any personal information, any device identifier, any location, any contact detail, or any usage statistic. We cannot see how you play, whether you play, or that you installed the app at all.

What the app stores on your device

So that you can close the app mid-puzzle and keep your streak, Peeled saves the following in the operating system's standard app preference storage, on your device only:

• Puzzle progress for each day: which words you revealed, which letters you uncovered, the guesses you typed, whether you solved or gave up, and the elapsed time.
• Your statistics: current streak, longest streak, puzzles played and solved, and a per-day history of reveals, hints, guesses and seconds.
• Your settings: the colour palette you chose, whether sound is on, whether the daily reminder is on and the time you set for it, and whether the how-to-play screen has been shown once.

None of this is transmitted. It is not backed up to any server of ours, we hold no copy of it, and it is removed along with everything else when you delete Peeled from your device. If your device is set to back up its apps to iCloud or to Google, that backup is made by your operating system under your own account and its own terms; we have no access to it.

What leaves your device

Nothing, with one exception you control. After you finish a puzzle, some days offer a "Read more on Wikipedia" link. If you tap it, your device opens that Wikipedia page in your own browser. From that point you are on Wikipedia and the Wikimedia Foundation's privacy policy applies, not ours. We are not told that you tapped it, and no information about you is attached to the link. If you never tap it, the app makes no network requests.

The puzzles themselves ship inside the app, so the game works with no connection at all.

Notifications

If you turn on the daily reminder, Peeled schedules a local notification on your device at the time you picked. It is created and delivered by your phone. There is no push server, no notification token, and no message sent to or from us. Turning the reminder off cancels it; you can also refuse or revoke the notification permission in your device settings at any time, and the rest of the game keeps working.

Purchases

The daily puzzle is free. A future update is planned to offer a single optional one-time purchase that unlocks the archive of past puzzles. If and when it ships, the purchase is processed entirely by Apple through the App Store (or by Google through Google Play). We never see, receive or store your card number, billing address or any other payment detail; the store only tells the app whether the unlock has been bought. The store's own privacy policy governs that transaction.

Children

Peeled collects no personal information from anyone, of any age, including children under 13. There is nothing to disclose, sell, share or delete, and the app has no chat, no social features, no user-generated content, no advertising and no third-party SDKs. We therefore comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) by design rather than by policy.

Your control over your data

Because all of it is on your device, you hold all of it. To erase everything Peeled has saved, delete the app; the operating system removes its stored data with it. There is no request you need to send us to have data deleted or exported, because there is no data of yours in our hands.

This website

These pages are static HTML. They set no cookies, run no scripts, embed no trackers, and load no fonts, images or code from any third party. The hosting provider that serves the pages may keep its own standard server logs, such as IP addresses and requested URLs, for security and operations; we do not use them to identify or profile visitors.

Changes to this policy

If the app ever changes in a way that affects this policy, for example when the archive purchase ships, we will update this page and change the date at the top. Material changes will also be noted in the app's release notes on the store. Older versions of the policy are replaced, not archived.
